Improved tropical-extratropical interactions suggest a mildly favorable model shift in the next two weeks.
Global models have recently shown improved tropical circulation, suggesting downstream influence on the polar storm track in the next two weeks. The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is moving into the Maritime Continent this week, with recent indications of a strengthening signal for our region which favours a perturbed polar storm track during the negative Southern Annular Mode phase.
This sets up the Australian alpine region to see increased cold front activity. As such, we are looking at the likelihood of snow on Saturday.
