A brief return to winter for SE Australia, NZ and South America this week.
The southern hemisphere polar vortex has undergone its final transformation ahead of the summer months. Some 12 km into the atmosphere above the South Pole temperatures have warmed to only -8°C below freezing, a seemingly early (and strong) ‘final warming’ event against the climatological mean.
