It might seem like a weak system on paper, but the next one could bring isolated convective snowfall that may come as a pleasant surprise.
Light-blowing snow has persisted through eastern alpine regions of Aus in recent nights as the persistent Tasman low has continued to send Southerlies up the eastern seaboard. It’s provided alpine first aid in the form of light snow showers and cold 850mb temps, supporting resort-wide snowmaking in NSW over recent days.
As the next system approaches, due Thursday arvo, the models have many scratching their heads on whether to reach for the mid-season equipment or the rockhoppers.
It’s all but disappeared in recent runs.
On Sunday night, ECMWF, the high-skill, hi-res model pushed out it’s 00z run with little more than a few centimetres for the mainland alpine WED-FRI (19-21st). This proved to be largely divergent from the American, and other models.
