My time in the Alps — across day tours, overnights and multi-day traverses — is driven by awe and guided by preparation. One thing I’ve learned the hard way: weather planning is not an add-on. It’s part of the ritual.
Below is the process I use for day trips into the backcountry. Screenshots will follow for clarity, but this is how I assess and navigate conditions from four days out to go-time.
It’s important to add that the follow recommendations assume you have the appropriate knowledge of AST1, suitable backcountry first aid and working knowledge of assessing backcountry reports.
